It is because a massive figure of peoples got cheated from them. Ultimately there would be a response and to justify that the Government with the co-activity of FTC introduced new regulation.

The try situation which a debitor get in the new and improved regulation for peoples is that nowadays there is no opportunity of barratry. This is alignment as it is clearly mentioned in the newly imposed law that no institution tin complaint thing from IT customer WHO opt for indebtedness colony before they complete the procedure of colony with the creditor to ensure that peoples will return a decrease in the aggregate outstanding positivity of right payment and debt. This mean that the interest of peoples and company are combined because if the company neediness to earn and tally their organisation then they necessary washing for the benefit of peoples otherwise they will seed to such an absurd which will Pb their concern towards a massive closing.

To discovery legitimate liability step-down assist in your Soviets and return people liability recommendation then cheque putout the followers nexus.

When In Credit Card Debt | Bankruptcy or Debt Settlement | What is the optimal choice?

Due to the Recent industrialism, meg of consumer, ruined financially by their vast recognition paper indebtedness, have selected failure, as the style away.

Bankruptcy must strictly be the chewer’s absolute finish option, because:

it stay on your recognition study for 10 twelvemonth and it is challenging to erase it. The mark of failure rarely foliage you. Next clip you enough putout a petition to snag a flat, steal a domicile, return a line, etc., single of the query you demand to response will be, “Have you EVER filed for failure?” Notice that there is no timeline presumption. More than 60% of those WHO enter into a Chapter 13 failure refund program fail to complete the refund programme mandated by the tribunal[i]. Bankruptcy is expensive, costing upwards of ,000 or statesman to record.

Bankruptcy, still, is far breaking than committing self-destruction maiden credit debt. There have been reported case where consumers have pet to extremity their life, as a meaning of escaping debt [ii].  If you believe that you whitethorn be on the threshold of harming yourself, please call-back the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-TALK.

There is, though, a choice to failure right to recognition paper liability, known as liability talks or indebtedness colony. This is where a consumer negotiates his/her outstanding indebtedness and salary a chemical of the positiveness owed as full-of-the-moon royalty. This is also known as indebtedness mediation, indebtedness talks, or recognition colony. Lenders have been practicing liability colony for yard of year. However, the concern of liability colony became prominent in America in the late 1980s and early 1990s when riverside de-ordinance, which loosened chewer-loaning practice, followed by an economic recess placed consumer in financial adversity, as is the suit present.

Because of the subdivision, Debt Settlement Companies are pop up everywhere, offer to agent the liability dialogue, between the chewer and their creditor, for an anchorage. However, consumer necessary be wary of Debt Settlement Companies. Consumers hear their Lorelei vocal everywhere, whose career prayer is hard to resist, “Come. We will aid you settee your debt for 50 cent on the buck…” Many consumer have fallen victim to these company and are often place in an absurd Interahamwe badness than before acquiring involved with them.

The case is, these company cannot do thing for you which you cannot do yourself. Moreover, if you do employment a colony establishment you are guaranteeing yourself a most difficult journeying putout of your indebtedness. Regardless of what they whitethorn bowman you, colony company cannot:

Stop the aggregation call Protect you against instrument case Protect you against judgments Settle your indebtedness better than you tin

More maiden, consumer WHO joint liability colony company, quit an indebtedness colony programme with these company usually after quatern month, and then record for failure. The reason are as follows:

None of these company URL the typical causes of consumer debt: poor budgeting, and/or living beyond single’s income.None of these company has an office where a consumer tin receive one-on-one reded. All contact and concern is done via the Internet, fax, telephone, and mail. Every date, you send them a monthly payment intend which will be used to settle your debt. Included in these serial payments, however, are the outrageous fee you will be charged. Debt colony companying are illegal in some states

According to a MSNMoney mag column[i], the law regulation indebtedness colony companies varies greatly by Soviets, but it’s worth noting that 12 states prohibit for-net liability direction. Those states are Arizona, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming. If you live in ace of these states, it is illegal for indebtedness colony company to brush you and wash with you, even if they’re based in another Soviets. Now, some of these company call-back themselves “not for earnings”, such as the liability colony establishment called Christian Debt Services. Stay away from this establishment, and or any liability colony institution.

Due to all the section, the optimal class of thing, if failure is in case avoidable, is to settee your debt on your own by engaging in liability talks with your creditor. How Can A Debt Settlement Attorney Benefit You?

If you are reading this column because the rubric caught your attending than chance are your stuck in a pretty bass fiscal groove; with the bulk of your fiscal job stemming from an overpowering positivity of recognition paper liability.  If so do not feel bad or embarrassed compensated now there are millions upon millions of people all across America who are stuck deep in credit paper indebtedness.  In this article I would like to present to you information concerning how a debt settlement lawyer tin really help you to get this eat figured putout and put behind you.

There is also a good chance that if your reading this article you are either already falling behind on your credit card payments or are on the verge of doing so.  In enjoining to achieve an indebtedness settlement you are leaving to have to moving behind if you oasis’t already, there is no way around this.

Before continuing to go further with what a debt settlement attorney can do for you I would like you to understand why the creditors will not settle with you when you’re current.

If you are juice with your monthly minimum payments and pay them their eminent involvement each month why in the existence would the creditors offer to settee your account for less than what you owe?  They have no reason too, they have you precisely where they want you; stuck running on their “credit treadmill”.  This vicious recycling is the skeleton royalty strategy at eminent involvement; where you will be stuck in debt for over 38 years and pay back excavation over five times the original balance in interest alone.

So you must fall ass and unfortunately this is where many people will instantly be turned forth from debt settlement and therefore dooming themselves to being financial slaves to their creditors for decades to come.

Debt settlement does offer some amazing benefits such as relieve a tremendous positiveness of money and time; however the negative pulling affects of falling behind are real and you should be made aware of them.

But there is good news!  A debt settlement attorney has the legal power to greatly reduce the No effects of falling keister so you can exposure pursue debt settlement.  Continue reading and I will explain the negative affect from fall fanny and bowman you how a debt settlement attorney can help assuage that problem.

For starters you must realize your recognition grade will be negatively affect and this is something that no one but yourself tin aid to fix, no attorney, no company, only yourself.  The initial process of falling behind on your payments is what will antecedent the detriment to your credit mark.  Thirty five percent of your grade is made up of your royalty history and this will payoff a negative safety.  However after a few years this negative affect no thirster holds the same overestimate, reason being your recognition score itself only reflects the past II years of your payment history.

]]>

Another 30 percentage of your score is your debt to credit ratio.  This is where liability colony will help your score.  Once you clear out your bad debt this ratio becomes a lot statesman favorable and will help your mark to rebound.  But if you are stuck deep in debt ask yourself what’s more important, finding a manner out of liability or maintaining your ability to accrue future indebtedness?  And in many lawsuit if you are stuck middle in debt even if you are photograph current your recognition grade will still be very depression.  Like I mentioned above your debt to credit ratio is thirty percent of your mark is very negatively affected when you owe large sums of credit card indebtedness.  So the figure one priority should be finding a way out of debt!

Now back to former affect of falling bottom and how a debt colony attorney tin help.

One studying inconvenience of falling past right is that the creditors will be calling you in an attempt to petition the debt owe.  With this process the original creditor will hold onto your account in the beginning stages of you falling can and by law has the access to contact you and nobody tin stop that.  However not long into the collection procedure they will reaching the debt over to a third party collection bureau.  This is where a debt settlement lawyer can step in and have the call by law stopped,  at this point they will only be able to trade with the law firm and are supposed to end calling the client.  This is according to the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act).   Thus greatly alleviating the accent a debtor will go through when using debt settlement.

This is 1 city benefit that a debt settlement lawyer has maiden a criterion debt colony institution.  A debt settlement company has no legal standing to stop the calling from either the original creditor or the aggregation agencies.  And any establishment that claims they can should rise a wink redness flag to you!

Perhaps what scares people the most about falling behind on their credit card bill is the opportunity they will be sued.  While this is a legitimate concern allow me Soviets that it is not the mainstay of the creditors.  Simply put it costs them too much appropriation and time to bring someone to court with no guarantee that they can cod the money.  However it is a real possibility and whenever making any size financial decisions it is effort to have all of your base covered.

The benefit of having a debt colony attorney if you were to return sued is that the attorney inactive has the legal compensating to contact the aggregator’ opposing attorney and negotiate a settlement.  In the vast majority of cases the attorney can keep their case from ever stepping foot in romance and get the settlement all worked out from extraneous of the court.  Thus benefiting all party involved, it is much easier for them to wash out the settlement with a reputable attorney and know for a case they will be have some sort of compensation for the debt; instead of disbursement appropriation and clocking taking you to court with the chance they will never receive a penny.

There is also a quodlibet that does not get brought up very often and this is “full revealing” and attorneys requisite offer potential clients full-of-the-moon disclosure to the debt settlement procedure.  They have the State Bar to reply too and cannot mislead clients and not explain to them in elaborated how this process works.  Then must fully reappraisal your personal unique financial situation to ensure this is the endeavor opening liability assuagement solution for you.

Many unscrupulous debt colony companies simply preach the benefit of debt settlement and never fully disclose to their client the potency downfalls.  This is what often times gives the liability settlement industry such a bad reputation.

I knowing I have been pretty much discussing the badness facet of debt settlement but I feel that it is important for populate to understand the whole process before enrolling with any company or lawyer.  But the world is liability settlement has been serving 1000000 of populate find financial freedom again by helping them to regain control of their finances by break free from the shackles of recognition card debt.  The fact object there is no other pedagogy of liability alleviation available that will help the debitor to save as much money and get retired of debt as quickly, other than bankruptcy; which has a much worse impacting on the credit and also stay a world evidence for ghetto.

I hope after reading this you now knowingness statesman learned and can glimpse the payment of using a debt colony attorney if you are stuck in a dismal situation with credit card debt.  I welcome the opportunity to personally review your situation to see if you whitethorn payment from the process, if you would like more information simply follow the associate below and fill discovering a request.

Is a relatively new entity, probably connection the liability alleviation concern only within the nowadays play of economic corner, and having little or no path evidence of imaginary expertness or long familiarization in the indebtedness alleviation manufacture On the telephone, their force will oath hereafter and wonderful upshot, but will send a declaration that reflects no warranty nor oath of any effect. Will credit confidence “law” known only to them as the footing for eradicating financial duty. The Six Minute Book Summary of Winning Without Losing Your Way: Character-Centered Leadership by Rebecca Barnett

Executive Summary

“Winning without Losing Your Way,” by Rebecca Barnett, is about real people struggling to make sense of our imperfect business environment and trying to hold on to their values. Rebecca Barnett first starts off her book by applying her judo training to the business world. From practicing judo she learned respect, courage, loyalty, truth, integrity and benevolence and explains how she applied it to her very successful business career.

The book takes place right after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and when Enron Company was found corrupt. Mrs. Barnett explains that when 9-11 happened, everyone came together and we were one nation again; everyone was helping one another and putting all differences aside. After two years of interviewing many different successful people, she was finally able to publish her book that she had put a lot of hard work and heart into. The main points of the book concern character, values and ethics. Character is being crystal clear on your values that are grounded in your beliefs. People of character are not perfect. Character is strengthened through acts of integrity, loyalty, and commitment that contain a measure of unselfishness and benevolence. In judo the sensei plays an important role in the development of his student’s character. She explains that the sensei has to make a commitment for practicing three times a week, fifty two weeks out of the year and teaching his or her students perseverance, making them stronger mentally and physically.

Rebecca Barnett’s life is like most people we know today, a workaholic. She got a job with Home Depot when they were first starting out. She has a husband and daughter at home and she expresses her current regrets of putting her job before her family in the past. Her life came to a halt when her daughter was in high school and her husband served her with divorce papers. After the divorce, she vowed to never put work above her daughter again since she missed out on so much of her life already. After getting a divorce, she had to figure out what was going to be the next step in her life. Rebecca wanted to have a hobby that she was able to do with her daughter, and it was then that she found judo. Judo pushed Rebecca to get in to shape and to dedicate time to the sport. At the age of forty, Rebecca decided that she wanted to become an Olympian. Along with studying judo, she wanted to write a book about how doing things right can make you more successful than doing things poorly, or by taking shortcuts, to get to where you want.

In today’s business world, we see on the news daily high executives going on trial because they get caught up in stealing, cheating, lying and anything else that they could do to get to the top fast. Rebecca Barnett gives excellent examples in her book of corporations that did unethical things, such as deceiving innocent people who invested money into corporations only to lose their life savings. Throughout the book Rebecca emphasizes how important character, leadership and ethics are if you want to be successful in the business world. If a person carries all of these traits, then they will be the individuals companies will be lucky to have on their team. She also touches on with the economy not doing well, and how companies have been having layoffs and employees are uncertain as to how their careers may end up. It is the employer’s job to lead his or her employees with confidence, give the employees some certainty and the main and most important thing: to stay honest with them. Honesty today is very hard to find, and one of the most important things people are lacking. There are still plenty of people who have all three of these traits, and they are the people who are now entering the work force, Generation Y. This is just a small part of what Rebecca Barnett speaks about in her book.

The Ten Things Managers Need to Know fromCharacter-Centered Leadership

1            Leadership must be grounded in ones beliefs as you make decisions about people and a strategy. Your values must become a bedrock in a storm of uncertainty and change.

2.            To become a strong leader, we have to be willing to challenge and or be challenged.

3.            Courage is doing what is right for the organization and the people when there is no right or wrong answer. Courage is taking measured risk, arguing your case and coming back to fight for what you believe another day.

4.            Someone’s legacy is what they are living today. It’s the leadership affect you have on the people that are around you.

5.            Significance means doing the work you are called to do rather than work you want to do or a job that pays a lot. This means follow your calling rather then just performing a job.

6.            A company’s value plays a critical role in retention, giving people a meaning and mission in their work. You can create meaning and purpose by leading with great leadership.

7.            Develop an atmosphere that encourages employees to do well rather than an atmosphere that makes employees go against each other. Employees will be more loyal to a company if they have a feeling of belongingness.

8.            Trust and loyalty is built slowly and not over night but by leading with honor through the good and bad, it can be done. Trust is built through many years of consistency.

9.            Leaders should be a source of stability for its employees so they can have someone to depend on. You should be a consistent leader, projecting confidence, encouragement, focus and direction to your employees.

10.            Wisdom come from unexpected sources, at inconvenient times, when sometimes we are too tired, too stressed and too hurried to listen. People are put in our lives every day to teach us something new. Wisdom is all around us and found in our daily lives.

Full Summary of Character-Centered Leadership.

Introduction

Rebecca Barnett believes if you have respect, courage, benevolence, loyalty, truth and integrity you will be very successful in corporate America. Throughout the book she breaks down each trait and explains how each is equally important and how you can apply it to your managerial career. Rebecca Barnett is a silver gold medalist in the sport of judo. She applies everything she learned from her sport to the business world. Learning courage and building her character helped her succeed not only in the judo community, but in her professional life. We have all heard of the iconic Home Depot franchise. Mrs. Barnett was one of the few who got on with Home Depot when it was first developing. When she joined the Home Depot she loved her job and enjoyed everything she did, but at the price of traveling and spending the majority of her time with her co-workers, she was losing out on precious time with her husband and daughter. Most families can relate to having both parents working, but one always puts in more hours then another. She explains in her book that this is one of the many struggles that she faces, and then describes how she deals with it. In the book she explains her life struggles, how she deals with them, and how the sport of judo helped her through it all.

Chapter 1 ( An argument for Character)

What matters the most when times are tough? Integrity matters most. A study that was done in 2000 by Ethics Resource Center stated that, “companies in transition from mergers, acquisitions or restructuring are the most at risk for unlawful or unethical behavior.” We all know from our own experiences, or seeing it on the television, when times are toughest it can bring the best out in people, and worst. Some of us were athletes as children. Maybe we still are, or we follow our favorite athletes through our favorite teams. Athletes show us a great deal of courage and character. The sport Rebecca Barnett chose was judo. Judo is a better form of martial arts it is a full contact, combative. It is also an Olympic sport. In judo you have to learn many techniques, such as pinning your competitor, choke holds and arm locks. What attracted Rebecca Barnett to this sport was how judo builds character, courage and benevolence. These are traits that can be applied to all facets of your life.

After all the aftermath of September 11th and the Enron corruption, people came together but still were very hurt from the betrayal they felt from both situations. Enron stole money from innocent people’s life savings .Thanks to Enron it made people wary to invest in Wall Street. After September 11th, we all thought it was like a second chance to do something important, something lasting. We have a second chance to live our legacy. In 1991, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations outlined corporate guidelines for effective ethics programs. This organization made not only companies responsible, but also made the executives responsible for unethical behavior. If they are found guilty of criminal conduct they can be fined up to 95% of the settlement. Companies responded to this new guideline by implementing and creating ethics positions, offering hotlines and having a code of ethics policy in the handbook. Tim C. Mazur, an ethics and compliance officer, says, “No one disputes that the board has the power to influence management behavior. Directors should use that power to influence company leaders to know and to care about integrity, values and compliance within the organization.” This statement shows that the ethics committee feels like top management should be liable for any misconduct because they have the power to prevent misconduct.

Chapter 2 ( Bridging The Values Generational Gap)

Heber MacWilliams once said “People desperately need to know that what they do makes a difference in the organization’s success.” This is a true statement because we all want to be rewarded or noticed for anything we put extra time in or something we excel at. In today’s society there is a movement in corporate America to go back and reinforce the importance of values and better leadership. When we go to work, we want to go to work for the pay check, but we also go to work to get the feeling of belongingness and that we make a difference. Companies need to have a set of core values and a mission statement, and hire people that feel the same way. By hiring people with the same values as the company, they will help the company grow and they will be committed to the company.

In Corporate America there is a new generation entering the field. With the Baby Boomers, Generation X and now Generation Y, I believe that Corporate America is getting crowded. The Baby Boomers are aiming to retire, but due to the economic crisis they are forced to work longer. These three very different generations all work differently. They have different beliefs and all want something different from their jobs. The baby boomers were born between the years of 1946 to 1964. This generation believes in idealism, individualism, self improvement and wants to climb the corporate ladder. Generation X is born between the years of 1965 to 1978. This is the generation that the boomers complain about because they have no work ethic, they are disloyal and do not respect their elders. All the Generation X’s want to do is rocket to the top and have all the perks and prestige without putting any work into it. This group just wants everything handed to them. The generation that is going to come in and clean up all the mistakes is Generation Y. This generation consists of the years between 1979 to 2001. The generation Y individuals value neo-traditionalism, technological adaptability, and the balance between work and a personal life. Not like generation X, generation Y expresses loyalty and stands up for their values. Setting aside the differences of each generation, they have to learn to work with each other. With good leadership it can be done.

Chapter Three ( Winning the Balance Tug of War)

In 1996, Rebecca says that she was in her best physical shape of her life. She was training hard for judo and making every weigh in for competitions. Every family always has the health issues that we need to worry about when we get older. Rebecca was starting to worry about her health because she was felling like something was wrong. Thyroid problems run in her family and hers was acting up. After going to the doctor he made her go home and think about having surgery to get it removed, or undergo radiation. She chose to go with the radiation, and everything worked out for the best, but she had to sit out of judo for a while. This pained her, but she knew she had to take care of herself not only for her self but for her daughter as well. Rebecca Barnett interviewed a man name Jim Carrick and he gave an interesting quote that most people can probably relate to. Carrick said, “Work can be like a drug, it takes discipline to shut it off. With cell phones, emails and faxes we could work 24 hours a day.” In today’s world I think this quote can be applied to many people because work has consumed their lives. Finding balance is one of the hardest obstacles managers face today. They find it difficult to put down their work; they barely make it home for dinner with their families, and it is even harder for managers than regular staff to take time off for vacation with their families. Balance is a personal matter, and it is more than multi-tasking – it is having a purpose.

Chapter Four ( The Courage of Character)

One year later in 1997, Rebecca finished her radiation for her thyroid and was back on the mat. One night at practice her judo partner threw her particularly hard, and she went numb. After many series of x-rays, the doctors told her that the shock of hitting the mat so hard traumatized her spine, causing temporary paralysis and the tearing of some of her back muscles. She was given the devastating news that she would be out of judo for at least eighteen months. After this serious injury it put a lot of what she thought was important into perspective. For many of us, it takes something unfortunate happening for us to take a step back and realize what is most important.

Leaders need to breathe and live their values in their everyday lives. Organizations need to have integrity and that begins with the framework of a company’s core values and goals. What is defines courage? Courage is not always doing something you’re afraid to do, or standing up to something when no one else is. Courage is doing what is always right, not looking the other way, not taking the easy way out and not buckling under pressure. For a leader, it takes courage to stand up against the status quo and to stand up for something that may be unheard of or unpopular. For us to become strong leaders we have to be willing to challenge the unchallengeable and of course to be challenged ourselves. Strong leadership gains respect from co-workers because they know that their leader will respect them, stand up for them and protect them if needed. Courage comes from within. It comes from a certain level of maturity. Courage is being comfortable in one’s skin and always trying to improve, but not impress. Rebecca says “courage is not the absence of fear, but rather pushing forward in the face of that fear.”

Chapter Five ( Making the Most Contribution)

In January of 1998, Rebecca and her fellow teammates began to train for their first regional tournament of the year. In martial arts, you move up in rank by the belt color you wear around your waist. When you first start out in judo, you receive a white belt, that white belt turns into yellow because of all the hard work and sweat you put into your work,. The yellow belt eventually turns green from all the ground work you do. The green will turn brown from all the blood you spill and finally turn black with a lot of practice and wear. Moving up the ladder with different colored belts is just like moving up the corporate ladder. It takes hard work, practice and dedication to get to the executive position you always dream of.

What does significance mean? Significance is doing something you enjoy, doing a job that you are called to do and not doing a job because it pays well. Trying to climb the corporate ladder wanting to reach the highest platform where we will feel the greatest success and pleasure but we seem to never reach the platform we want. After endless days and nights of work and more work, trying to reach what we think is success, all we gained is time lost. Time lost with families, friends and any other plans you may have wanted to do in your life. With having time lost we lose out on some of the most significant moments we could have had.

Chapter Six ( The Lost Art of Loyalty)

The trend we see in businesses today is layoffs. This decade all companies have been doing is downsizing. Employees know going into a new job that they may not have this job or may not even be with this company a year from now. It makes it exceptionally hard for managers to lead due to low morale, higher absenteeism and employees know there may be no future beyond next week paycheck. The stress and fear that downsizing brings to employees can cause them to act out of character. Organizations need to develop a reputation of hiring the best and brightest, and that will attract the best to the organization. One thing that hurts an organization the most is when they replace the best with someone who will work for a cheaper price and maybe less hours. Lost talent is one of the hardest things to replace when the economy gets better. There are three truths to keeping stay in your organization, our economy is constantly contracting and expanding in cycles of boom and bust, the labor pool is shrinking and organizations will be fighting to find loyalty with employees for many years to come.

The one thing an organization needs most is loyalty with employees. It is very costly to higher someone new and very costly when someone leaves, especially if that person is an important asset to the organization. Organizations need loyalty now more than they ever did. If a company treats an employee how they deserve to be treated, takes care of them and gives them the feeling that they belong, in return they will give the organization their loyalty. Jim McCallie says, “If my beliefs and actions are consistent with the organization, they will be loyal to both.” This statement is so true and that is why it is so important for organizations to have a set of core values. As a leader, reward your best employees when they perform really well, and they will keep performing well. People will be loyal to an organization when they feel like they are bonded with the same common goal.

Chapter Seven ( Living and Leading with Character)

In the Spring of 2001, Rebecca Barnett hung up her silver medals and focused on becoming the best judo referee she could be. It was hard for her to give up her dream of becoming a gold medalist, but she could no longer stand up against her competitors that were half her age. Just as how Rebecca had to realize giving up a dream would be better for her health, companies need to learn to not always focus on their competitors, but to be thinking about their own organization. On July 30, 2002 President George Bush signed a business reform bill into law, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. This bill is also known as the Corporate Corruption Reform Bill and provides a lot more than just business regulations. This bill includes accounting industry regulations, white collar crime penalties, and personal accountability. This federal bill is to help make and enforce an organizations framework of ethics.

Companies have published codes of ethics and have written polices about ethics.  Ethics polices protect companies from embarrassing headlines and some hefty lawsuits, but it does not prevent improper conduct. It is the company’s job to hold ethics seminars every so often, publish new codes of ethics, and to remind employees of their basic responsibilities. We all know it only takes one person to do something right and people will follow and that is considered great leadership. A common question asked is, “How can we fix corruption?” This is an easy, but yet also difficult, question to answer. We can lead our co-workers by communicating everyone’s values, principles, and telling them character is more than just following the rules; it is taking responsibility for yourself. For leaders, it is important to guide your employees in the right direction and give them encouragement when needed.

VIII Chapter Eight (Winning your Way)

In the summer of 2001, Rebecca Barnett finally started the business she always wanted to. She put long hours into her days flying to different seminars all over the United States for small business owners. One thing she took from working at Home Depot is that she knew she did not want to lose any more time with her daughter, she knew that she was going to set limits between her work life and personal life. By realizing what she wanted, she got a second chance to do it over. Rebecca explains that “this book is about real people, struggling to make sense of our imperfect business environment and trying to hold on to their values. They have been disappointed and discouraged. They have often made mistakes and fallen short, but never gave up.” We meet new people everyday and, usually after talking with these people, we learn something new. Wisdom usually comes from unexpected sources, and at some of the most inconvenient times when we may be too stressed or too hurried to listen.

Through informal and formal mentoring programs we can make a difference in corporate America. By modeling solid work ethic, having regular attendance, good judgment and good core values this makes a great movement in an organization. Ethics can not be taught but by enforcing a good code of ethics, giving management a clear direction, and helping them decide what is right or wrong, we are moving in the right direction. If you are afraid of making bad decisions or failing, ask yourself, “What is the worst that could happen?” You need to let go of all of your fears, take a leap of faith, and you’ll realize that there is never a “convenient” time. We need to live now in this moment no matter what the obstacles may be.

      IV. Conclusion

Throughout the entire book, Rebecca Barnett has proven some very good points on how to become a great leader and succeed in corporate America. We need to remember to get a job that compliments our values and beliefs. While entering the work force it is important for me to get a job that I am going to enjoy and feel a sense of belongingness with a company. Being apart of the generation Y, we will bring great leadership and communication skills to organizations. We will bring everything we’ve learned to the table to help out the organization that employs us. It is important for organizations to hire the best and brightest for their corporation to build loyalty and trust. If you remember to go through your business career remembering your values and integrity, and you stay loyal, you will be very successful.

Personal Insights

Why I think:

The author is one of the most brilliant people around…or is full of $ %, because:

Well first of all, I think Rebecca Barnett is one of the most brilliant people around. She made so many good points and when I start my career, I will defiantly refer back to the book for guidance. She made some really good points by applying what she learned from judo and how she can apply what she learned to the business world. The business world is just like playing a sport. It’s very competitive, you have to put a lot of hard work into and it takes a lot of practice and time to become successful. One of the things I really enjoyed about the book is how she was honest about her life and the struggles she faced, but she got through them and realized what was more important in her life, her daughter and being the best referee of judo she can be. One of the many quotes she has in her book this one stood out to me the most, “Like a shadow, your reputation is with you every day. It follows you from company to company. It can open and close doors. It can cause you promotions or win you career-building assignments. A good reputation allows you to take risks and promote programs. It attracts people who want to work for a leader of high integrity.” This quote by Rebecca Barnett can sum up her whole book but I believe this one quote is really powerful and spoke to me personally. This is why I think Rebecca Barnett is one of the most brilliant people in the business world.

If I were the author of the book, I would have done these three things differently:

1.            I would not have focused so much on the competition of judo. I would have made my relevant points about judo and how it related to the business world.

2.             I would have added more situational problems that could happen in the business world and to handle the situation. There is a lot of what should have happened and I would have liked to see this is how to correct this problem.

3.            I would have structured the book a little bit different. To fix the structure I would have made the chapters a little lengthier and a little bit wordier.

Reading this book made me think differently about the topic in these ways:

1.            It made me realize that I do not have to be dishonest or someone I am not to make it to the top. It showed me that being myself I can do anything I want and it will to where I want by being myself and honorable.

2.            The book also made me realize that leadership is more then just knowing how to lead a team but you have to be able to stand up for what you believe in and for your fellow co-workers.

3.            The book made me thing differently about judo. I always thought it was just like wrestling and not that big of a sport, but boy am I wrong. I had no idea it was an Olympic sport!

I’ll apply what I’ve learned in this book in my career by:

1.            One thing that learned from this book is that I will apply to my career is lead by example. It is so important to lead your employees in the right direction and by leading them in the right direction it not only benefits you but benefits the company.

2.            I will make sure that I am always honest with myself and the employees I lead. By being honest not only will it make me a better manager but I will have trust with my co-workers.

3.            I will apply to always remember my values and what is important to me. If I do my job and keep my values in sight I will be successful in my career.

Out of Body Experience

I was baptized as an infant and brought up in a Christian home. My high school days were formative times for my Christian faith and my relationship with my Lord. Many people contributed to the nurturing of my faith in my Lord Jesus Christ. One of my closest and guider was my mother. She would usher me to church every Sunday and prayed for me in every little occasion we had. In her simple small ways such as these shaped and instill in my desire to be a Christian.  I always thought of my relationship with Christ as something at supernatural and spiritual realm and nothing concrete and real until I had the out of body experience: OOBE.

One night in 2007, I was one of the members of our local church youth group that went to a settlement for our weekly fellowship meeting. On our way to the settlement we were held up by some thugs. A pistol was pointed at my fore head. As I felt the cool smooth surface of the pistol’s barrel, I was shut off.

Something else happened, suddenly my spirit or my personality or whatever it was, it was getting out of my mortal, physical body and stood on the side of the street on which we were held up. It was me, the same me, but the spirit me went and watched my body being held up. I watched everything the thugs did to me. My brains were blown up; blood and membranes spurted out onto my clothes, and flowed on to the tars. The bitumen of the sealed street was splashed with blood. As my spirit watched what the thugs did to body, blue flies attracted by the odor of my blood swarmed the scene.

In the split of a second, I saw police and ambulances came to the scene. They took my corpse to the morgue. The next thing I saw was my corpse put into a casket and paraded into our local church for funeral service. I saw clearly my wife dressed in black with our four children clinging onto their mother as they accompanied the coffin.

As a spirit I watched without regret or remorse of any sort, but enjoyed the scenes that unfolded before my very eyes until my mother came around. My corpse was airlifted home as the incident occurred in a city far away from my village. My mother must have received the news of my passing. She was at the airport awaiting the plane that had the corpse to land.   As the plane descended to land, she threw herself at airstrip and ran onto the runway for the place to kill her. She  tried to commit suicide because she could not bear the pain of losing her first born son.

At this moment, I struggled in my spirit body or my personality. I said in a loud voice from where I stood watching, “No Mother! No! “Instantly, I found my spirit inside my body. I felt the cool, icy touch of the barrel of the pistol. I felt it, my first time ever, of a weapon of any sort. I ducked and gave a very strong under cut to the unsuspecting thug. The pistol came off his grip. I did not care to do anything, but ran for my life to the nearest house to get help. The thugs also ran for their life, escaping from avenging neighborhood into the crowded streets few meters away from where it all happened.

Out of Body Experience (OOBE) shows many things. First, there is spiritual part of human that exists in us. That spirit dwells in the body and will depart when the body dies.  It is also important to note that the body houses the spirit and the body has to be looked after well. For Christians, the message is very precise and clear for us. “The spirit, the Lord God breathed into us to give us life shall return to him and body shall return to the dust because from it we came” upon our death.  We are not just biological beings and subject to death and to disintegrate into soil and become another biological matter- soil. We are partly biological and spiritual.

Second, there is proof of immortality. If the spirit returns to its own owner or to take its residence elsewhere, it will take a new form of life other than the one it lived when it was in the body. For Christians, it will be a glorified life that was won for us by Christ. For other religions, they have the concept of reincarnation. It is all to do with immortality, life after death. And sure there is life after death.

For Christians, it is the life that Christ has won for you on the cross and it will be the same life, but lived in a glorified body and in a new paradise without sin and to be lived into eternity.
